Two very different kinds of number
This site mixes arithmetic with estimates, and it matters that you know which you are looking at. Everything on the left of this list is exact; everything on the right is not.
| Type of figure | Nature | Can you rely on it? |
|---|---|---|
| Unit conversions | Exact, by international definition | Yes, fully |
| Height difference arithmetic | Exact, given the inputs | Yes, given the inputs |
| Country average heights | Modelled estimates from pooled studies, rounded | As a broad frame of reference only |
| Celebrity and athlete heights | Commonly cited figures, often including footwear | No - treat as approximate |
| Animal heights | Published ranges; mid-range used | Approximately |
| Dinosaur heights | Reconstructed estimates, vary widely between sources | No - one estimate among several |
| Character heights | Community-maintained profiles, mostly unofficial | No - for consistency in creative work only |
| Percentile results | Statistical model with stated parameters | As an approximation only |
| Child height estimate | Mid-parental population rule of thumb | No - consult a clinician |
| BMI results | Standard formula; a screening statistic | As one data point at most |
Not medical advice
Nothing here is medical advice. The percentile calculator, child height predictor and BMI calculator are general-interest statistical tools. They cannot assess an individual, they do not account for medical history, and they are not diagnostic. If you have a concern about your own height, a child's growth, or body composition, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
Not professional advice of any other kind
The object and furniture presets are approximate real-world dimensions intended for visual comparison. They are not construction documents, and they are not a substitute for measuring your own space. Similarly, nothing here constitutes engineering, architectural or safety advice.
Where the data comes from, and its limits
Country average height figures derive from NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC) data. NCD-RisC pools population-based studies and models national means; the values are estimates rather than a direct census, and the numbers shown here are rounded to two decimal places. Small differences between countries should not be treated as meaningful.
Unit conversions use the exact international definitions established by the 1959 yard and pound agreement: one inch is exactly 25.4 mm.
Every preset in the comparison library carries a note describing the basis of its figure. Where a figure is disputed or varies between sources, the note says so. Every value is editable, which is deliberate - if you have a better-sourced number, use it.
